The Truth Seekers:

WEEK 4

Monday – August 24, 2020 – “The Game.”

This week’s Torah Portion is called “Ki Tetze;” Deuteronomy 21:10 – 25:19. be

The Jewish High Holidays are approaching. September 18 is the start of Rosh Hashanah. 10 days later is Yom Kippur. Then Sukkot October 2-9, followed by Simchat Torah October 10. Why is this information of value? It might not be, BUT REMEMBER, the “work” of The Atwater Yoga Group is about inquiry.

Arguably, the most urgent challenge we are confronted with today is how to find harmony with others who hold a seemingly direct opposing ‘view.” “Others” used to live”across the pond.” Today, ‘they’ may be our brother, sister, mother, father, friend, boss, son, daughter, co-worker, etc…This, combined with the upcoming presidential election is what is making this an urgent situation.

We have learned through our inquiry into yoga that there are two opposing forces at play; The Yang and The Yin. Those of us who have looked at The Kybalion and the seven Natural Law Principles have a deeper understanding of the dynamics of duality that permeates throughout all of Nature. The Vipassana Meditation Technique has shown us the “two wings of the bird;” Awareness and Equanimity. Is there a solution to our present challenge? Of course there is. Will we find it by arguing over “issues” that have been turned into offensive and defensive weapons of war? No, I don’t think that will work. Then what do you suggest Michael?

A perspective, a world view can be looked at as being the same as a Theory. All Theories have embedded assumptions, some conscious, some unconscious. In my opinion, the way forward is to apply the principles we have been exposing ourselves to in the work we have been doing in yoga, meditation and map-questing. Our group is a kind of petri dish for experimentation. We all have agreed that the destination of our path is connect to Source; To experience Samadhi. We are in a period of time when the opportunity to return to Source is strong. I can feel it. Can you?

Saturday – August 29 – CONCENTRATION

Let’s do a brief update of where we are on our yoga journey. Today is the last day of week 4 of our 13 week journey. Full moon is approaching (September 2 @ 1:22am EDT). Rosh Hashanah starts on the evening of September 18th on a new moon.

We have been studying Pratyahara (the 5th limb of the 5 limb path of yoga). Now, we are going to begin to move into the 6th limb (Dharana). Dharana means concentration.

Homework Preparation for Monday night’s Meditation/Mapquesting Session: Listen to a 17 minute Ted Talk by Dandapani and re-read chapter 6 (Training for Concentration) in the Vipassana book. Also, bring a candle to the session.

Here is a short (5 min) video I liked today. Maybe you will too?
